Are you a regular online shopper on Amazon? If so, you may be more than a little bit familiar with the name Mellanni Fine Linens. Their products are consistently marked as Amazon Best Sellers, and most of the tens of thousands of positive feedback on them are from verified customers.

Mellanni Fine Linens founders Margarita and Igor Poluyko wanted to provide consumers with comfort, elegance and luxury; without sacrificing affordability, ease of use, or functionality. They have so far been largely successful, if customer ratings are to be believed.

This review tackles the Mellanni Fine Linens 1800 Collection sheet set. What a mouthful! Thankfully, the product name is usually simplified and listed this way: Mellanni Bed Sheet Set.

Does the Mellanni bed sheet set live up to its impressive online reputation? How does it measure up against other affordable sheet sets? Find out below.

What Is the Mellanni 1800 Collection Bed Sheet Set Made From?

The fabric used is 100% polyester in the form of high quality brushed microfiber.

The Mellanni bed sheet set is available in seven mattress sizes: twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, California king and split king. It comes in 28 different solid colors—from light hues like plain white and blue hydrangea, to dark tones like emerald green and plain black.

Mellanni also offers three different prints: quatrefoil, paisley and stripes. These each come in several colors, as well. All in all, you can choose from a whopping 39 different variants of this sheet set. That is an amazing range of options! (To compare, we were already very impressed with California Design Den’s 27 variants of their cotton sheet set.)

What Is Brushed Microfiber?

Microfiber is a synthetic fiber that is thinner than a fine silk strand, which is already much thinner than a human hair. Polyester is a common material to use in the making of this fiber. Brushing is a process that comes after the fibers are woven, and this makes the microfiber fabric more durable and noticeably softer.

Fabric made from this material is thin, but usually very smooth and very strong—especially if its intended use is for bed linens. When stacked against cotton sheets, it will perform similarly or maybe even better in terms of durability. However, it is more cozy than it is breathable, which could be a problem if you sleep hot.

It’s generally accepted that microfiber materials are not biodegradable. They’re also known to be flammable. We haven’t seen any complaints or horror stories regarding flammability in the thousands of customer reviews we’ve read, by the way. This is just good information to know, should you purchase this sheet set or other microfiber products.

What Does the 1800 in the “1800 Collection” Mean?

We know what most people will think, so we checked! It doesn’t seem to refer to a thread count. Rather, it is simply the name Mellanni gave to this particular product series.

Both the brand’s official website and their Amazon storefront make no mention of a promoted thread count for this sheet set. However, many verified customers assume that 1800 is the thread count, due to the softness of the fabric. Whether or not this is true, only Mellanni knows—and they haven’t bothered to correct or confirm customers on this detail in the years they’ve had the product up at Amazon.

What’s Included in the Mellanni 1800 Collection Bed Sheet Set?

Mellanni offers the standard four-piece sheet set: one flat sheet, one fitted sheet and two pillowcases. The exception is the split king variant, which is a five-piece sheet set due to two fitted sheets needed.

As usual, the king sizes feature bigger pillowcases—20 inches by 40 inches—compared to the rest. Twin to queen sheet sets come with the pillowcases that are “standard”—20 inches by 30 inches. Worth noting that these sizes are both smaller than the dimensions Grund America uses for their pillowcases. (The Grund America Savannah sheet set has longer pillowcases; 30 inches length for standard sizing and 41 for king options.)

Fitted sheets are come with a depth that fits up to mattresses 16 inches thick. However, we’ve seen some reviews that mention the sheets having trouble staying on sometimes.

How Does the Mellanni 1800 Collection Bed Sheet Set Perform?

As we mentioned briefly in the review intro, this sheet set is an Amazon Best Seller, with a 4.4 average rating and over 50,000 customer reviews. If you go through all the customer feedback, though, you will find repeating complaints that are hard to ignore.

We can sum everything up in one thought: You get what you pay for. Yes, these sheets are very affordable! For many people, this is enough. But more discerning consumers have a lot to say that’s not very appealing if you want to use this sheet set for a long time.

First off: Many negative reviews assert that the sheets don’t breathe, but they absorb sweat and body oils. Several customers have said that the sheets end up being stained due to excessive perspiration and oily hair. Even worse, some say that the microfiber feels almost plastic—like sleeping on shower curtains.

Then there’s the issue of durability. There are images posted of fitted sheets splitting at the seams or elastic edges breaking on beds not even 16 inches thick. Pilling also seems to be an issue, which is odd as one of the great advantages of microfiber is that it is resistant to this kind of fabric weathering. A few even mentioned color stain problems.

Finally, there is what seems to be a common complaint among online repeat buyers: The quality changes on the second or third buy. This is what really confuses us. Some consumers give great positive feedback, only to change their review at a later date because the sheet set bought at a later date felt like it wasn’t even made with the same material.

This is not to say that the reviews are overwhelmingly bad—in fact, it’s the opposite! So many people have nothing but nice things to say. If they have complaints, they seem to be the smallest of caveats, like the color not being consistent with the photos on the product page. Worth noting, too, that some negative reviews still mentioned that the sheets were actually very soft and very comfortable.

When we were wading through the thousands of customer comments, we were reminded of our Mayfair Linen sheet set review, as the feedback we encountered when researching that product was equally divisive.

Is the Mellanni 1800 Collection Bed Sheet Set Hypoallergenic?

According to Mellanni, the brushed microfiber fabric they use hypoallergenic. It is also said to be fade, stain, and wrinkle resistant.

While the latter claims were contested by the occasional negative customer feedback, we could not find any alarming review mentioning difficulties resulting from the sheet set not living up to its hypoallergenic claim. That’s good news!

However, note that if the fabric absorbs moisture but is not breathable, it should be washed more frequently to prevent possible lingering odors, mildew or mold growth. These may cause discomfort, and may possibly lead to allergic reactions.

Does the Mellanni 1800 Collection Bed Sheet Set Smell?

There is a smattering of negative feedback complaining about a smell, but it’s not a prevalent comment.

Any odor is most likely due to off-gassing that happens while the sheet set is in its packaging in storage and/or transport. What’s a little worrying is that Mellanni doesn’t seem to promote any safety certifications that could ensure that any emissions are nothing to worry about.

How Do You Wash the Mellanni 1800 Collection Bed Sheet Set?

Machine wash cold, tumble dry low. Like many affordable sheet sets, care instructions for this Mellanni product are simple and easy.

The brand does not specify washing the sheet set separately from the rest of your laundry, but we do recommend it. The sheets are very thin, and while they’re said to be durable, it doesn’t hurt to be cautious.

How Much Does the Mellanni 1800 Collection Bed Sheet Set Cost?

As of this writing, one queen size Mellanni Bed Sheet Set in white is available on Amazon for $24.70.

The actual price varies depending on which color and/or print you choose. Some sizes aren’t available in certain colors or prints, as well. The quatrefoil print is available in only five colors, the stripes in four, and the paisley in just two.

Does Mellanni Offer a Trial Period, Return Policy or Warranty?

Mellanni stands by their products and offers a money-back warranty coupled with a Lifetime Satisfaction Guarantee: no hassle, no questions asked.

The brand insists that they have the industry’s more customer-friendly policy, with your satisfaction being their top priority. In fact, they say that you don’t even have to worry about returning the sheet set if you’re not happy with it. Just send one email to them and initiate the 100% refund.

Final Words on the Mellanni 1800 Collection Bed Sheet Set

Although this product is popular online, actual customer feedback points to inconsistent quality and experiences. Bottom line: You get what you pay for. The Mellanni bed sheet set is so affordable that it’s easy to forgive slight annoyances—and the Lifetime Satisfaction Guarantee is a great touch.

We are absolutely over the moon at the wide range of assortments Mellanni offers its customers in terms of sheet set design. So many colors and prints, and with a split king size, too! We may have been a little bit too forgiving when it comes to the review rating, but we do give great importance to options like this.

There are many negative comments, but that’s about par for the course with products that are very affordable. We are of the opinion that you get what you pay for, and as long as you manage your expectations, it’s not unreasonable to enjoy a product even if it’s not perfect. We can’t give a 100% go-ahead, but this is definitely a great sheet set for the budget conscious.
